“Procrastination is like a credit card: it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill”
Christopher Parker Today I found out that I was one of the many people suffering from the horrible disorder called procrastination. This has taken over the majority of my life. For those who don't know what procrastination is and what it does, procrastination causes you to put anything important and that needs to be done to your last priority. For example, if you have an assignment due and you are suffering from this disorder you will not feel the urge to get the assignment done until the very last moment. In class today I found out that i was not the only one in that class suffering from procrastination. As a whole we decided to brainstorm ideas on how we could get rid of this disorder. We came up with multiple ways on how we could control procrastination. One way we came up with is by making a smart goal. As said in my last blog they are very useful and specific, so we can use the smart goal to stay on top of handing in assignments and controlling procrastination. The other way we can beat this disorder is by using Google calendar. The application allows you to keep a tight schedule and reminds you as many times needed. By keeping a tight schedule will not allow procrastination to sneak into your life. What I learned during this is that not only there are many ways to beat procrastination, you just truly have to put in the work to get rid of this monstrous disorder procrastination

Today in Music class we are thinking about goal setting and how we need to set goals to succeed. They continually ask us “ is your goal a SMART goal?”, personally I thought my goal was a “SMART” goal because it made sense to me and it was something I wanted to achieve. Little did i know, the reasoning for my teachers asking me this is because the word “smart” is an acronym for something.
“S” standing for Specific meaning, we are supposed to define the goal as much as we can. “M” Standing for Measurable meaning, can we track the time in which we are to achieve the goal. “A” Standing for Attainable meaning, is the goal reasonable enough to be accomplished? “R” standing for Relevant meaning, is the goal worthwhile? “T” standing for timely meaning, when do we plan to accomplish this goal? My new and improved goal for the academy is to be able to read tablature for drums. I will be doing this by practicing every single friday for two hours for eight weeks straight. At the end of these two weeks I expect to have mastered reading tablature! Let's be honest though, I don't think that I will have mastered it but I will be fairly close! My goal is legit because I am a drummer and I play by ear. By learning how to read tablature I will have a vast amount of songs that I could learn. During that same class we got into even more complicated things, we had to find out our long term goals or in other words our personal goal. My personal goal is to graduate with honours. I plan on doing this by studying consistently, doing my work on time and and all in all keep my grades up. The goal is going to be hard to achieve but I am willing to do it because it will benefit me in the long run. I would have to say this was the hardest class for me mentally, but basically I learned a valuable lesson here, Goals really and truly cannot be accomplished when it isn't “SMART”. |
